NEW BOOK — JAPANESE PACIFIC WAR
The Japanese Pacific War 1941-45
Courage in Adversity
This book has been written after following the VJ Day (Victory over Japan)’s 80th Year Events; also being inspired by my father having served in in the RAF in Burma for four years.
It investigates why Japan started the war in the Pacific with its Empire expansion ambition; what the Allies’ reaction was and their early defeat. It points out some aspects of the Japanese’s brutal treatment of POWs and those captured. How the Japanese supported setting up the INA (Indian National Army) with its intent to force Indian independence from the British.
The Allied recovery plan to defeat Japan, with their intelligence operations are referred to. Also mentioned are the personal accounts of POWs and serving personnel. There are interesting medical discoveries by some of the POWs interned to help fellow prisoners from dying.
This book supports the Burma Star Association and other charities set up.
Much research has been done to enumerate all the various regiments and organisation for this period of the war. This book is certainly a very worthwhile reference and a must for a better understanding of this phase of the War.
